How to Throw an Outdoor Movie Party

Farewell, summer! If you're living somewhere that refuses to cool down and get ready for fall (ahem, southern California), there's still time to squeeze in a movie party with your nearest and dearest! This year we held our third annual Summer Outdoor Movie Pool Party and it was a blast. Here are some ways to make yours memorable.

You Will Need:
*A projector and a sheet/screen (you can rent a projector or splurge and buy your own!)

*Comfy seating (blankets, pillows, and lawn chairs work great!)

*Snacks! We like to tie them into our theme...we've actually managed to work a watermelon into our snack table presentation every year. Can you guess the movies?

Indiana Jones Party!

This past weekend we threw our annual outdoor movie party, this year's theme being Indiana Jones! We had friends over to swim, eat "bad dates" and "chilled monkey brains," and watched Raiders of the Lost Ark under the stars! We had a lot of fun with the theme, and drew inspiration from the first three Indiana Jones films, as well as the Indiana Jones ride at Disneyland. Kingdom of the Crystal Skull can go take a hike! Photos below!

Oh, and a video too! There were copyright laws preventing us from using the theme from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, so we sang it instead. And it's terrible. Enjoy!

A Wes Anderson Soiree!

Last Saturday we threw a Wes Anderson theme party...part costume party, part art show! I had a lot of fun putting it all together, trying to include little details that really drove home the theme. Add some very creative friends, great films, and a s'mores station, and I think it was a success! Hopefully our guests had as great a time as we did!

Movie Party: Amadeus

I love throwing little parties for no reason, and my favorite ones usually draw inspiration from a favorite film. After our "12 Months of Kubrick" series of movie-watching get-togethers in 2012, I was left facing an empty calendar in 2013. So a friend threw out the idea of having an Amadeus party, mostly so she could make me play piano for her! I loved the idea, and we decided to throw something together.

Amadeus is one of my favorite films ever, so planning a party inspired by this film was a fun project. I knew I wanted to have memorable details like an old-school wig, a feather pen for guests to sign our guest book, and an impromptu piano recital!

Ain't No Party like a Jaws Pool Party...

Have you heard? Jaws is on Blu-ray! So, naturally, we had ourselves an End-Of-Summer Jaws Pool Party to celebrate! We pigged out on sharkie snacks, went swimming, set up a projector in the backyard and watched Jaws under the stars, went swimming again while we drank hot chocolate, and ended up watching Sleeping With The Enemy after midnight (nothing wrong with ending the night with a little trash!)...we had an absolute blast! Enjoy the photos!

A Clockwork Orange Soiree

Some of you may know that we've been doing monthly screenings of Stanley Kubrick's films (in order) for our little 12 Months of Kubrick 2012 film-festival-in-our-living-room-whatever. Last Saturday's film was A Clockwork Orange, so we thought we'd do it in style!

Ludwig Van, some dyed orange teddy bear sunflowers, our guest book and a droog slang cheat sheet!
