First Time/Rewatch: Rewatch
I don't know why this film isn't nearly as well-known as some other early horror films. This one is creepy as hell, with some of the most eerie and surreal imagery recorded on film, accentuated by the grainy and shadowy black and white photography. In one scene in particular, I thought someone was floating and I noticed when I looked closer that she was supported by a bench, but it was so hard to see. It just adds to the dream-like atmosphere. The film is light on plot, but big on visuals. Things turn transparent, shots run backwards, and situations get very strange. Vampires, ghostly figures, skeletons, they're all here and it's a real treat for the most macabre movie lovers.
