10. The elf who assures Buddy that he's not a "cotton-headed ninnymuggins"? None other than Peter Billingsley, AKA Ralphie from The Christmas Story! If that doesn't give a film Christmas cred, I don't know what would.
9. Gimbels is back! The now-closed store serves as the setting where Buddy briefly works and meets the lovely Jovie (Zooey Deschanel).
8. Fans of the Sedaris family will appreciate seeing Amy Sedaris play Buddy's father's secretary, and superfans might catch references to David Sedaris's "SantaLand Diaries." Did Krumpet put me up to this? Yes, yes he did.
7. There is a narwhal in this movie! Actually there are a lot of cute animated animals, referencing the Christmas classic Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.
6. Faizon Love is hilarious as Buddy's boss at the department store. He's stressed out, he's uptight, and he declares that there is NO SINGING in the North Pole!
5. New recipe ideas! Try spaghetti with maple syrup! Or spaghetti with chocolate syrup and crushed poptarts! Or just a giant Ziploc bag full of spaghetti to take for your lunch. Sounds delicious, doesn't it?
3. The montage of Buddy exploring and playing in the city! Revolving doors were never so much fun!
2. This film features a couple scenes of Zooey Deschanel singing in that lovely lovely voice of hers. Her voice can make Santa's sleigh fly!
1. Peter Dinklage as author Miles Finch. Like a boss.
Enjoy!
As with any movie with him, all you need is Dinklage.
