Sight & Sound Challenge: Breathless (1960)

Film: Breathless (À bout de souffle) (105/250)
First Time/Rewatch: Rewatch

Everything about this film is cool and sexy: the characters, the editing, the setting. It feels like a breath of fresh air, welcoming the 60s with these young self-absorbed characters. The character of Michel (Jean-Paul Belmondo), with all his Humphrey Bogart idolizing swagger, seems like a little boy playing dress-up at times, like his tough-guy exterior is part of the costume. Patricia (Jean Seberg) is beautiful, insecure, and absolutely captivating. They live in a stunning black and white Paris, where everybody sleeps together and then throws their cigarettes out of their apartment windows. I just love revisiting this one every now and again when my life needs a little injection of chic. Which I guess is all the time, haha.
