Disney's Best Villain Sidekicks!

Hooray, another Disney post!

What's that? You're tired of these?

Shut up! My blog, my rules!

Every good (bad?) Disney villain needs a sidekick. They need somebody to do their bidding, concoct evil schemes with, or hang out with just to look cool. Here are ten of my favorite villainous sidekicks, in no particular order!

Lucifer, Cinderella (1950)
Effing cats, am I right? Cats are perfect villain sidekicks, because they are pure evil by nature. Just ask our cat Wednesday, who has completely shredded our couch. Thanks a lot, Wednesday!  Lucifer is the pet cat of Lady Tremaine, aka Cinderella's evil stepmother, and he's a total jerk. Remember when he got dirty paw prints all over the freshly scrubbed floor?  He'd be dead for sure if he tried that at my house!

Sir Hiss, Robin Hood (1973)
Sir Hiss is Prince John's right hand man...er...snake. He's a bit of a prig, always correcting everyone, but he's got his wacky moments, especially when he inflates a balloon around his head and flies around spying on people, haha! Oh, and Hiss? Prince John totally hates you. Sorry!

Si and Am, Lady and the Tramp (1955)
Oh god, there's two of them.
These cats aren't technically villain sidekicks, I guess, but they certainly cause a lot of trouble! Plus they're terrifying-looking, and their song is creepy too. They totally look like they would suck the breath out of a baby, don't they?

Goblins, Sleeping Beauty (1959)
I love these guys! First of all, Maleficent is so completely badass and in no way needs these guys, but she hangs out with these incompetent little goons anyway! Where did she pick them up, anyway?  I bet they really know how to party.

Iago, Aladdin (1992)
Iago is useful to the evil and slightly ridiculous Jafar in his own way, namely by disguising his voice to trick Aladdin. Mostly, though, he's just a smartass. And he's so ticked off that he's molting!

Horace and Jaspar, One Hundred and One Dalmatians (1961)
Horace and Jaspar are Cruella De Vil's henchmen. And like all good henchmen, they are incompetent, they bicker, and they think they're smarter than they are. I'm particularly fond of them because they have a sort of sinister Laurel & Hardy vibe to them, and they watch game shows about criminals when they should be getting stuff done. Love it!

Shenzi, Banzai and Ed, The Lion King (1994)
These three hyenas do the bidding of the evil Scar, and even started the stampede that killed King Mufasa (and traumatized nine year old Becca). But when they're not on the clock, they goof off, they enjoy bad puns, and insanely giggle like...well...hyenas (that's mostly Ed). Don't piss them off though...they make a hell of an enemy!

Smee, Peter Pan (1953)
What a guy! As Captain's Hook's right hand man (or is it left-hook man? Ahahaha!), he shaves Hook's face, helps him come up with some of his schemes (and usually bungles them), soothes his rattled nerves, and still finds time to get good and drunk. Can you ask any more from an evil sidekick?

Kronk, The Emperor's New Groove (2000)
Hooray, Kronk! Kronk isn't really evil, he's just lovably stupid. He goes along with Yzma's sinister plans for a while, but luckily his "Shoulder Angel" keeps him from being too unpleasant. He loves to cook, sleeps with a teddy bear, sings his own theme music, and manages to be a friend to everyone. Kronk, you make a terrible villain sidekick, but you can come hang out with me anytime!

Joanna, The Rescuers Down Under (1990)
The sadly underrated Joanna is the pet of the despicable poacher McLeach. She's a Goanna (monitor lizard) for anyone who's interested (just me? Okay...) and she's a nasty creature. What makes her so brilliant? Two words: egg scene.

I love it!

Who are your favorites? Did I leave out anyone awesome? Let us know!

  1. I like Pain & Panic from Hercules...but mostly because they're voiced by Bobcat Goldthwait and Matt Frewer. Plus they were stupid enough to by Hercules merchandise and wear it in front of their boss. Everyone loves a good slurpee cup.

  2. Lock shock and barrel I found to be great henchman in the nightmare before Christmas due to the comedic relief and how they are loyal to their father figure Oogie Boogie.
